Tips to Take Care of Your SUV

Your SUV is no doubt a real investment. Not only is it a powerful vehicle, but it also gives you more space, better visibility, and comfortable seating. That said, these vehicles require some additional maintenance. If you’re not sure of what you need to do to take care of your SUV, check our tips below.

Follow the Maintenance Schedule

To keep your SUV in top shape, the most important thing you can do is set up a maintenance schedule. You can check the owner’s manual to know when and how often you should be getting your SUV checked.

Check Fluid Levels

It’s vital that you check the transmission fluid, oil, coolant, brake fluid, and windshield wiper fluid levels from time to time (at least once every month). This will help you top them off periodically when needed. Also, checking fluid levels from time to time will help you avoid leaks and other issues.

Change the Filter and Oil Regularly

It’s important to get the filter and oil changed regularly to keep your SUV in good condition. Make sure to do this even if you are keeping track of the motor oil levels and topping it off frequently. Keep in mind that if your filter becomes too dirty, it will not filter out the debris in the engine, which means the oil will get dirty fast and not work as efficiently.

Keep the Interior Clean

It’s not just the mechanical aspects that you need to pay attention to. It’s important that you also keep the interiors clean. Given that SUVs are larger vehicles, it’s likely you will drive around friends and family, which means your car may get messy faster. Keep your SUV clean by regularly vacuuming the carpets, changing the cabin air filter, and wiping the insides of all windows.

Make Sure the Tires Are Properly Inflated

It’s important to ensure that all the tires are properly inflated, regardless of which car you have. Properly inflated tires will give your SUV better traction and control when using four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. What’s more, if your tires are inflated, you’ll also get better gas mileage.

And, regardless of whether you see any issues or not, make sure to get your SUV regularly inspected.
